BIG WINS FOR THACKER AND PAYNE AT INDY

INDIANAPOLIS (August 1, 2010) -- Marty Thacker and Jay Payne brought home big wins this weekend from the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil at O'Reilly Raceway Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The Robinson, Ill., racer, Thacker, qualified in the tenth position in Top Alcohol Dragster and ran a final pass of 5.415 seconds at 266.85 mph. This was fast enough to defeat Shawn Cowie, from Delta, B.C., who posted a time of 5.488 seconds at 226.89 mph.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car it came down to a battle of the veteran racers between Jay Payne and Tony Bartone. Traveling from Long Island City, N.Y., Bartone qualified first and ended up with the low elapsed time of the event at 5.498 seconds during qualifying. Unfortunately for him, his final run was not as successful as he went into tire shake right off the start line. Payne, the Claremont, Calif., resident enjoyed a win with a 5.648 second lap at 256.36 that leaves him second in the point standings. This was Payne's third national event win to go along with two divisional wins.

Troy Coughlin Jr., grandson of the founder of JEGS Mail Order, Jeg Coughlin Sr., brought home his first Indy win this weekend in Super Comp. The Delaware, Ohio, resident posted a final time of 8.921 at 175.80 for the trophy. The runner up, Don O'Neal from Huntsville, Ala., ran a time of 8.954 at 155.96. In Comp Eliminator, the current point's leader, Al Ackerman, grabbed a victory as well. Traveling from Saddle Brook, N.J., he posted a winning time of 8.331 at 126.84 over Woodbridge, Ill., resident, Bruno Massel, who red lighted in the final run.

Defending series champion in Super Stock, Jimmy DeFrank, traveled all the way from Chatsworth, Calif., for his first victory this year. He defeated Irvin Johns with a time of 8.710 at 155.33. Johns, a resident of Charlestown, Ind., ran at 9.228 at 141.34. In Stock Eliminator, Tim Bishop defeated Brad Burton in the final run when Burton, from Golden, Colo., red lighted. Bishop, from Queenstown, Md., secured his victory with a run of 10.321 seconds at 129.08 mph. Shawn Langdon, Brownsburg, Ind., took the win and the trophy in Super Gas over the weekend with a time of 9.922 at 163.37. Langdon defeated David Tatum III, Palmetto, Ga., who is first in points after the weekend and ran a final run of 9.930 seconds at 164.71 mph. Langdon also competes in the Top Fuel category running for Morgan Lucas Racing where he advanced to the semifinal round before falling to event winner Larry Dixon.
