Jason Line and the Summit Racing team continued their torrid pace on Friday, making the two quickest runs of each round in the Pro Stock category during the first day of qualifying for the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas, Texas. After opening with a track-record 6.565-second, 211.20 mph pass on his opening attempt, the 2006 champion stepped it up in the evening session, tripping the finish line timers in 6.553-seconds to solidify his hold on the No. 1 position.

With two attempts remaining on Saturday before the field is set for Sunday, Line was quick to acknowledge the efforts of his crew in preparing what has been the quickest car in motorsports’ most competitive category, as well as the fact that his work for the weekend was far from over.

“You couldn’t ask for a better way to start the weekend,” said Line. “My Summit Racing Pontiac is one bad hot rod right now, and I’m the lucky guy that gets to drive it. Although that certainly helps your confidence, you also feel a little extra pressure because you don’t want to screw it up. Still, the performance you are seeing now is the culmination of a tremendous effort by everyone on this team.

“Keep in mind that this is only the first day, and although it’s nice to have scored six bonus points, it’s more important that we score the big points by going rounds on Sunday. We made a decent run on our first pass, but left a little bit on the table tonight, so we still have some work to do. We did as well as we could for our first day here in Dallas, so now we have to focus on duplicating that effort each of the next two days, so we can take Wally home with us.”
