No break for hard-working Morgan heading to Pomona finale

With the Auto Club NHRA Finals just a few days away, Larry Morgan is hoping to end his best season behind the wheel of the Lucas Oil Ford Mustang since 2007 on a high note.

Morgan will finish no worse than 10th in the final standings after this weekend's racing, which will be his best since ending seventh overall in 2007.

"It's been a crazy season," Morgan said. "The last part here just flew by. It seems like we were racing in Indy just a couple of weeks ago. It's the way every season goes I guess."

He still has an outside shot at ninth place, but Morgan would have to win the race with Ron Krisher going out in the first round or Morgan make with semis after a Krisher DNQ.

"On the whole, we didn't have too bad a year," Morgan said. "We're going to finish in the Top 10, which is good. We had some high marks and we'll look to build on it for next year."

Morgan said the Lucas Oil Mustang team has already cast one eye toward next season.

"We've already started work on our 2013 equipment," Morgan said. "We've been busy trying to keep up with the rest of the guys, which is a pretty tough deal to do.

"The new stuff we've been putting together the last two months is looking very promising."

However this weekend, the focus will be on ending with some momentum at Pomona.

"We got all our engine stuff back from our last race in Vegas," Morgan said. "We found out that we broke a valve, so we fixed that. And it's all back out there. I'll go out to California on Wednesday to start working on so we're in good shape.

"All we need is a little luck and we'll see if we can do some good out there."
