WJ Hopes to Cause an Outbreak of Triskaidekaphobia in Norwalk
Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts GTO Racing team completed a solid qualifying effort on Saturday, capturing the 13th starting spot for Sunday's final eliminations of the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. Although his 6.683-second, 206.57 mph pass from Friday evening remained his run of record, it was his final attempt, where his 6.695-second, 206.76 mph pass was the fastest and the sixth quickest in the heat of the afternoon that boosted The Professor's confidence heading into race day.
"We've been making some changes throughout the weekend, hunting down the proverbial sweet spot on our GM Performance Parts GTO. The key has been that any adjustments we've made have been incremental, so we never strayed too far from a proven set-up. Although we've certainly seen some improvement as evidenced by our performance in the last qualifying session, we know we can do even better, so we'll analyze the data from our runs, seeing what else it needs.
"I have to take my hat off to the Bader family and the entire management here at Summit Motorsports Park. They've all been extremely helpful, and the racing surface has been excellent, especially considering the conditions. Most importantly, I believe the two lanes are closer in performance than any other we have raced on this season. Therefore, lane choice should not be as crucial tomorrow as it's been in recent races, giving everyone an equal shot. Overall, we're feeling pretty good about our chances. Hopefully, tomorrow we can make the number thirteen unlucky for everyone else."
