PAC: Series Fallon Saturday summary

Fields Set at Top Gun; Wayman, Gordon on Top

FALLON, Nev. (June 13, 2009) -- In the final rounds of qualifying for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series it was Kevin Wayman and defending event champion Doug Gordon qualifying on top in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Wayman of South Jordan, Utah, laid down a lap of 5.582 seconds at 255.48 mph to lead the dragster field. Johnny Ahten, Saugus, Calif., sits in second at 5.640, 240.80 and Chris Demke, Sunland, Calif., is third.

Gordon of Paso Robles, Calif., drove his '06 Monte Carlo to a 5.905 second lap at 245.70 mph followed by Sean O'Bannon, Ontario, Calif., at 5.953, 246.45. O'Bannon is undefeated in the NHRA Pacific Division picking up wins in each of the first two events of the year.

A pair of racers from Glendale, Ariz., led the Comp Eliminator field with Mike DePalma on top of former NHRA Lucas Oil National Champion Dean Carter. DePalma runs a '98 Firebird while Carter pilots a nostalgia front engine dragster in the class.

Steve Wann grabbed the early double qualifying No. 1 in both the Stock and Super Stock classes. Wann of Modesto, Calif., drives a '73 Dodge Dart in Stock and a '69 Barracuda in Super Stock. Pete Miclette rode his '97 GSXR past the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson field with a near perfect 0.003 second reaction time.

Jimmy Johnson, Santa Rose, Calif., is No. 1 in the Hughes Performance Top Dragster category with a lap of 7.088 seconds, 187.82 mph with Will Boxold in second out of Orangevale, Calif. J. Wayne Silvia joins the rest of the leaders taking the pole position in Top Sportsman running 6.994, 200.24 mph. The Upland, Calif., racer is followed by Ted Carli, Temecula, Calif.

This weekend's event is part of Fallon's Octane Fest which features multiple motorsports events and concerts at various venues in Fallon.

Racing continues Sunday at 8 a.m. with round one of Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car set for noon.
