DIXON POSITIONS MILLER LITE RAIL IN NO. 6 SPOT FRIDAY AT POMONA
POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2005) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon qualified his Miller Lite dragster in the provisional No. 6 qualifying position Friday at Pomona Raceway as qualifying continued for the 41st annual Auto Club Finals, the final race of the 2005 season.
Dixon, a 38-time NHRA winner, opened qualifying on Thursday by using a tune-up from champion crew chief Dick LaHaie to power the Miller Lite/Ameriquest rail to a 4.549-second elapsed time. On Friday's only qualifying attempt, Dixon's dragster lost traction early and slowed to a 9.578-second pass.
"The motor had a cylinder out at the hit and then spun the tires," LaHaie said. "When a cylinder goes out at the start, things just snowball from there. Thankfully, it was just a qualifying run and wasn't that big of a deal."
The Miller Lite team will qualify at noon and 3 p.m. (PT) on Saturday afternoon at Pomona Raceway.
