Miller Lite Dragster's Owner and Driver Meet Irwindale Workers While Honoring Brewery's Accomplishments

IRWINDALE, CA (January 28) Just weeks before Don Prudhomme and Larry Dixon begin their quest to become the best Top Fuel team in the National Hot Rod Association, the two Miller Lite Racing team members helped honor and celebrate the workers of Miller Brewing Company's Irwindale facility as it was named Brewery of the Year.

Named after the company's founder, the "Frederick J. Miller Brewery of the Year Award" was given to the Irwindale brewery for overall quality, customer service, productivity and organizational effectiveness. The Irwindale workers were invited to spend their lunch hours last Thursday touring the Miller Lite Racing Garage while spending time with Prudhomme and Dixon who proudly represent them each weekend on the 23-stop, $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

It was a whirlwind day for the Miller Lite Racing team members as they both arrived at Irwindale just after 9:00 AM last Thursday to meet brewery workers and Miller Brewing Company corporate executives during the first of three presentations throughout the day. Prudhomme and Dixon both repeated their efforts again from 6:00-8:00 PM, while Dixon even stayed for the third and final shift's lunch hour which ran from 10:30 PM Midnight.

"To be standing here on sacred ground at Irwindale, where us drag racers got our start years ago before this brewery was here is really something special," said Prudhomme. "If there is one thing I have learned over the years about making any kind of a business work, it's that you need to be surrounded with good people that are willing to work together. I know that is not always easy, especially out at the drag strip, so I congratulate everyone at Irwindale for winning this award."

Dixon agreed with his Hall of Fame team owner's respect for a job well done. "We go out to the racetrack each week and do our best to win races and try to be the best by the end of the season," said Dixon. "Believe me, I know that it is not an easy thing to do, so for all of you to win this award for being the best is something to be proud of. I know that all of us on the team are proud to represent you every week and hopefully this season we will be able to make you proud of us as well."

In addition to autographs and pictures with Prudhomme and Dixon, Irwindale's finest admired the impressive Miller Lite Racing Garage complete with Rusty Wallace's 50th win car, Dixon's 2000 Miller Lite Dragster and a replica of Jimmy Vasser's Indy 500 car to be driven this year. Brewery workers also enjoyed playing the racing simulator, viewing racing videos and displays featuring driver's uniforms and trophies, as well as specialized car parts and mechanisms.

Prudhomme, Dixon and the entire Miller Lite NHRA Top Fuel team kick off the 2002 season on February 7 at the 42nd Annual K&N Filters Winternationals at Pomona, California.
