GOODYEAR-SHOD CARS WIN SIX OF EIGHT AT NHRA RICHMOND RACE

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 15, 2008) -- Teams and drivers racing on Goodyear tires won six of the eight categories in the NHRA's Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, the second consecutive national event in which Goodyear's variety of tires and compounds overwhelmed other tiremakers.

Dating back to the previous event on the NHRA POWERade schedule in Memphis, Tenn., Goodyear-equipped teams have won 15 times in 18 chances. No other tiremaker has more than two wins in those races.

At Richmond, the Goodyear winners included Tony Schumacher (in Top Fuel), Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Dave Connolly (Pro Stock), Arnie Martel (Competition Eliminator), Adam Davis (Stock) and Tisha Wilson (Super Comp).

Schumacher defeated Hillary Will in the final but Will moved to second in the standings. Schumacher leads Will 2,527 to 2,315 in the NHRA's championship Countdown to One.

Pedregon beat Jack Beckman, but Beckman remains second in the standings, trailing only Tim Wilkerson.

Connolly's victory moved him within three points of second place in the standings. Jeg Coughlin leads with 2,374 points and Kurt Johnson is next with 2,300.

Martel's win was his fourth of the season and the tenth of his career. Davis won the second national event of his career. Wilson won in her first career final round appearance.
