"It's simple, we need to go there and win. Going to the semis won't do it. The guys in front of us are the best cars in the class for a reason. As far as the championship goes, we have steep challenge in front of us, but it's

mathematically possible. So, that's our goal. Our car is coming along. Lee(Beard) is doing a great job. If we don't shake or smoke the tires, we have a great car and it'll be very competitive. That's the big caveat there. That's the scenario, we're going to go there and be totally focused, like always, and make things happen."

Bazemore Richmond Notebook

Two weeks ago at Texas Motorplex near Dallas, Bazemore qualified his Matco Tools dragster 10th with a run of 4.586 seconds at 326.56 mph. He advanced to the semifinals for the fifth time this season before falling to Bob Vandergriff, Jr.

Bazemore enters the final race in the Countdown to Four ranked sixth in the NHRA Top Fuel standings. The longtime Matco Tools racer is 74 points behind fourth place driver Brandon Bernstein for the coveted No. 4 position in the Countdown standings.

In March, Bazemore become just the 15th driver in NHRA history to earn poles in both Top Fuel and Funny Car when he qualified first at the Houston race. He also advanced to the final round at Denver in the first all-David Powers Motorsports final round. He was defeated by teammate Rod Fuller.

Bazemore has an average starting position of 7.7 this season. In six career tries at Virginia Motorsports Park, his average starting position is 7.3.
