BUFF-PESZ, HARKER LEAD QUALIFIERS AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX

ENNIS, Texas. (Friday, April 3, 2009) -- In the first rounds of qualifying at the NHRA South Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Texas Motorplex, Kimmelyn Buff-Pesz, The Woodlands, Texas, set the pace in Top Alcohol Dragster and Gainesville, Ga., Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Steve Harker took the top spot in his class.

Buff-Pasz's impressive 5.325-second, 274.72 mph pass was just enough to get around Malcolm Wahle of Caremore, Okla. Wahle ran 5.347 seconds at 265.90 mph to put him in the No. 2 spot.

Harker outpaced the field with a 5.623-second, 250.13 mph lap. Kebin Kinsley, Kennedale, Texas, and Lee Callaway are in the second and third slots after running 5.718 seconds at 255.58 mph and 5.720 seconds at 251.11 mph, respectively.

Pat Nahan, St. Cloud, Minn., leads the Comp Eliminator field. Rick Reinhart, Rosenberg, Texas, wheeled his '66 Impala to the top of the Super Stock field and New Waverly, Texas's David Buckner in his '72 Duster sits atop the Stock Eliminator field. Earl Folse, Raceland, La., is No. 1 in Top Sportsman, Michael Kile, Westlake, La., is No. 1 in Top Dragster and in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson, David Latino of Donaldsonville, La., is No. 1.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Texas Motorplex. Spectator gates open at 11 a.m. both days. Qualifying for Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman is scheduled at noon and 3 p.m. and Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Eliminations start on Sunday. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at noon.

Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Texas Motorplex are $20 Saturday, $20 Sunday. Children 6 to 15 years old are $10 Saturday and $10 Sunday. Kids 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Spectator parking is $5.

Texas Motorplex is located on Hwy. 287, two miles west of Ennis, between Interstates 35 and 45. From Dallas, take I-45 to Hwy. 287 west to the track, or take I-35E to Hwy. 287 east to the track.
