Columbus, Ohio (Pre-race) - Scott Tidwell, driver of The CBI Performance Warehouse Chevrolet S-10, used his time off prior to the 36th Annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals to refine his driving skills in testing at Montgomery Ala.

"Since we got the truck running like it should," said Tidwell; "I have not been on the tree."

Tidwell, who after a disappointing DNQ at the Gatornationals earlier this year, concentrated on bring his team up to a level of performance that he felt would be competitive with the rest of the Pro Stock Truck field. The purchased a new Bill Jenkins power plant was the first step. After that, it was many long days and night perfecting his trucks set up. Since that time, Tidwell has qualified for the last five races. No a small feat for a class that sends home 20 or more racers from each national event.

"Right now we have the truck where it needs to be. We have good power, and our set-up is where we want it. We have been running and qualifying good, but on race day I have not been as good on the tree as I would like to be. My lights have been in the 40's, but they need to be in the 20's. There are adjustments that we can make to the truck that will help my reaction times, but the rest is up to me. So we decided that we would go to Montgomery and work on the driver.

"Right now a fast truck will not win you races. You need a fast truck and a good driver. This Pro Stock Truck class is so tight that in theory anyone can win, on any given day. Randy (Daniels) and Bob (Panella) have been winning everything. They have good horsepower, but they can be beaten. They are going to make mistakes, and the driver that is on his game is going to take them out. Mike (Coughlin) did it to Panella in Virginia. I want to be in the position to capitalize on their mistakes, but I can't do that driving like I have been.

"We went to Montgomery last week and tested. I spent my time working on my lights, staging procedure and shifting. My crew worked on the truck. Those two things together, I believe, are going to give me the advantage this weekend in Columbus. I think if I qualify well, and race like I know I can, I can end up in the winner's circle Sunday night."

Qualifying at the 36th Annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals begins on Friday June 16 and continues on Saturday June 17. Eliminations will take place on Sunday June 18, at 11:00AM EST.
