Shayne Lawson Earns A/Fuel License and Qualifies Fifth in First Event

BRADENTON, Fla. - Shayne Lawson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is back in action for the 2009 racing season. After taking almost a year off to regroup, the former Top Alcohol Funny Car licensed driver is now piloting a brand new dragster owned by Todd Odom with tuning advice from Bill Reichert.

Lawson, who is a heavy equipment operator in Oklahoma, completed his cross over license on Thursday, February 12th at Bradenton Motorsports Park prior to the opening of the Southeast Division, NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Event. The TIGERFLOW sponsored driver completed his license with a 5.58 elapse time and was just shy of 260 miles per hour on both of his full passes.

"We looked around quite a bit last year for the best win/win situation for a team to partner with" notes Lawson. "When we met up with Todd Odom, we were able to put things together very quickly. We spent time in Arlington, Texas, assembling the car and getting all the necessary details put together to be ready for this weekend in Bradenton."

It all paid off for this newly formed team as they qualified in the fifth position at the end of Saturday's two qualifying sessions in Florida.

"We had a problem with the reverser on both qualifying passes. My crew had to come out there and push me back both times. We finally figured out what was hanging up the linkage and had it fixed for first round on Sunday."

Although Lawson did have an early exit in the first round, he ended up running a very strong 5.384 at 264.47 to the winning effort of Bill Evans 5.387 at 268.17.

Lawson would like to thank Monroe Guest and Marvin Yoder of TIGERFLOW Systems for their continued support to help him with his racing endeavors. In addition, he thanks his dad Kelly Lawson, Todd Odom and his crew.

Lawson's Tigerflow Team will next appear in Gainesville, Florida for the second Southeast Division, NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Event.
