Miller Lite / Snake Racing Team advances to Semi-Finals in Seattle.
Upholds 97-point NHRA POWERade Top Fuel lead.
SEATTLE (July 29) - NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Top Fuel points leader Larry Dixon saw the opportunity to record his eighth victory of the season and pad his points lead evaporate by only 25-thousandths of a second to Darrell Russell Monday in the semi-final round of competition in the rain-delayed 15th annual Lucas Oil Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways
Dixon's Miller Lite/Snake Racing dragster ran a time of 4.629 seconds, 321.35 mph to Russell's 4.614 seconds, 315.34 mph. "Our car really slowed down," said Dixon, who qualified in the third position for the race. "It wore the clutch out a whole bunch on that run - way more than it did the last two runs.
"I'm mainly disappointed about not winning the race. That's the biggest thing on my mind right now. We could have worn out the clutch on any other run here and we would have been fine. That was the most inopportune time to have it happen. You have to give Amato's team credit, Darrell stepped up, the car stepped up, they got the win light and we didn't."
In the quarterfinals, Dixon matched his first round elapsed time on Sunday with an identical E.T. of 4.586 seconds, with a speed 321.73-mph. to defeat Cory McClenathan, who tried to get a starting-line advantage, but instead red-lighted his chances away.
Before the rains brought Sunday's activities to a halt, Dixon had defeated Scott Weis in the first round of eliminations.
Dixon now has a total of 1,262 points and takes a 97-point lead in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel division into the next NHRA event - the Fram Autolite Nationals at the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Ca. slated to run Aug. 2 - 4.
