Coughlin Brothers Return With Plenty Of Energy And Momentum

The NHRA Pro Stock brother duo of Jeg and Troy Coughlin will return to the Prolong Northstar Nationals with a fresh win under their belt. Jeg and Troy raced in the final of the Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals with Jeg coming out on top. This was the third all-JEG'S final of the '99 season (AutoZone Nationals, Winston NO BULL SHOWDOWN & Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals). The Coughlin's and their business, JEG'S Mail Order, are as far from home as they get on the NHRA tour. Although Jeg and Troy are far from home they are never far from a Pro Stock victory.

The JEG'S Mail Order team uses a two car team approach to winning and is NHRA's largest all-family professional race team. Jeg and Troy race in NHRA's most competitive class, Pro Stock. NHRA's newest professional class is well represented by JEG'S Mail Order. Brother's Mike and John Coughlin compete in Pro Stock Truck. The next race for the Pro Stock Truck class is the US Nationals. Jeg Coughlin, Sr is the team advisor/father. "NHRA has given me the tools to grow with my children and spend time together doing something that we all enjoy. It is truly a great feeling," said Coughlin, Sr. The team has had a lot of success throughout the '99 NHRA season and is a threat to win at every event.

'98 NHRA "Rookie of the Year" Jeg Coughlin, Jr. said, "I really enjoy the West coast swing. The scenery is breathtaking and something that is very refreshing." Last year during the West coast swing Jeg started off by winning the Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals in Denver, which proved to be the high point of the West coast swing for him. "We really started off strong last year. We made some poor decisions that hurt us in Sonoma and Seattle last year. I am confident that our team learned from the mistakes that we made and that we will be extremely strong this year. The momentum that our team has right now is great, everyone has been working hard and it shows in our results." Jeg moved up to the number three position in the Pro Stock points battle with his win in Denver and trails Kurt Johnson, who is 108 points ahead.

The West coast swing can really change how the season unfolds. "Having so many races close together can either be an obstacle or an opportunity. If you have the equipment and keep your teams energy level up it's an opportunity. We are looking forward to the opportunity that we have to take a big step forward in the points," commented Coughlin. Troy drives the #24 JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass. This very talented driver would like nothing more then to go home with some wins and be firmly in the top ten. Troy has five runner-up finishes so far this season and is having the best season of his career. Troy said, "This year has been very rewarding so far. We know that we have the talent, the horsepower, the confidence, a great team behind me and the desire to win. All of the ingredients are in place for us to win!" Troy currently holds down the number six spot. Coughlin trails Richie Stevens by 53 points and 119 points separate Troy from the number four position, which is held by Jim Yates. Strong finishes in Seattle and Sonoma will move Troy and his #24 JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass closer to the top.
