VISTA, CA (August 4, 2003) - Don Prudhomme Racing announced today that Ed McCulloch, Crew Chief of the Skoal Green Racing Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car driven by Ron Capps, has been relieved of his duties effective immediately, according to team owner Don Prudhomme.
Tuning responsibilities of the "Green Team" have been assigned to current Assistant Crew Chief Todd Okuhara who will serve as Interim Crew Chief. Snake Racing will evaluate Okuhara's abilities in this new role, and will also consider other opportunities before officially naming a new Crew Chief for Capps.
"I wish Ed the best of luck in the future," said Prudhomme. "However, right now our main focus is to restore consistency and competitiveness to the Skoal Green team. Ron has done an excellent job driving no matter what the circumstances. Now it is our job to give him a better horse to ride, as we try to win races and work toward capturing our first NHRA POWERade Funny Car championship."
Capps currently sits sixth in the 2003 NHRA POWERade Funny Car standings and has one victory (Phoenix) in two final round appearances this season. His career-best POWERade points finish came in 1998 when he finished second to John Force. Capps matched his runner-up championship effort again in 2000 after collecting one win in seven final rounds.
Don Prudhomme Racing's administrative headquarters is located in Vista, California, with racing operations based out of the team's Brownsburg, Indiana facility. Snake Racing's roster of drivers include Capps, Skoal Blue Racing Funny Car pilot Tommy Johnson Jr., and reigning NHRA POWERade Top Fuel Champion Larry Dixon and the Miller Lite Team. Snake Racing is proud to represent such racing partners as United States Smokeless Tobacco Company (Skoal), Miller Brewing Company, Lucas Oil Products, Raybestos, and Mac Tools.
