Team JEG'S Ready To Make A Run

The JEG'S Mail Order Racing Pro Stock Team has had their share of success so far this season. Between Troy and Jeg Coughlin, Jr. they have nine final round appearances in fifteen races. The two brothers have raced each other in the final round three times, with the younger Coughlin winning all three meetings. Troy Coughlin earned a position in the Federal-Mogul Speed Pro 200-Mph Club this year and is one of a very select few who is also a member of the Pro Stock Holley 6-Second Club. On the other hand, the team has suffered eight DNQ's between the two drivers.

Jeg Coughlin, Sr who is the team advisor and father said, "If you look at each run that we made during the West Coast swing, we never got beat by the car in the other lane. We made mistakes and beat ourselves." The team tested Monday at National Trail Raceway and spent their time eliminating mistakes and gathering additional data. "There is such a fine line in this class. You can make a small change that throws you off in the wrong direction and sometimes it can take twice as long to get back to where you were before you made the change."

'98 NHRA "rookie of the year" Jeg Coughlin, Jr. currently in the number four position in the NHRA Winston Championship with 785 points. The younger Coughlin trails Jim Yates by 124 points. "The mistakes that we made during the last two races really hurt us in the points. However, the '99 Championship is not out of our reach. We will need to focus on our program and the rest will take care of itself," said Jeg.

Troy Coughlin sits in the number six spot with 660 points. Troy is 75 points behind Richie Stevens and trails his younger brother by 125 points. With a strong finish Troy can reclaim the number five position in the NHRA Winston Championship. Troy stated, "We have eight races remaining in the season, which is 36%. A lot happened in the first 64% and even more can happen in the rest of the season."

The team is surrounded by talent and a desire to win. Richard Maskin and his staff at DART Machinery has been busy improving the engines that power the men in yellow and black. Clint Allerton, Mike Cunningham, Craig Hankinson, Eric Luzinski, Dan McDonald, Wayne Perdue, Rick Rossiter, Ian Rough, Ed Tickle and Scott Woodruff makeup the Championship caliber team. Jeg, Sr stated, "When you have this many talented people working toward the same goal anything is possible!"
