SCHUMACHER LOOKS TO DELIVER U.S. ARMY 100TH NHRA WIN

TOPEKA, Kan., May 18, 2010 - Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher will try to present his long-time sponsor - the U.S. Army - its 100th NHRA win here this weekend in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka (HPT).

Of Schumacher's 63 career victories to date, 59 have come with the U.S. Army's colors covering his championship-winning, record-setting Top Fuel dragster.

Other NHRA drivers who have taken the U.S. Army to victory lane over the years include Don "The Snake" Prudhomme (24 wins in Funny Car), Angelle Sampey (10 wins in Pro Stock Motorcycles) and Antron Brown (six wins in Pro Stock Motorcycles).

"We would love to get the U.S. Army its 100th NHRA win this Sunday," said Schumacher. "It's all about being successful for our Army Strong Soldiers. They deserve nothing but the best from us."

At this year's U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend, Schumacher and the U.S. Army will celebrate 10 years together. That number carries plenty of importance to the Chicago-area resident.

"You bet," he said. "I've really enjoyed my relationship with the U.S. Army. It's been a productive program from the very start for both parties. I've always said I wouldn't want to drive for any other sponsor. I would like to close out my career with them."

If Schumacher collects the coveted 100th NHRA win for the U.S. Army this weekend, he will have also disposed of a bully known as Heartland Park Topeka. HPT is one of two tracks where Schumacher has failed to pocket a career victory.

"We didn't take Atlanta Dragway out of the mix last weekend (he lost in the semifinals), so we'll just have to target Topeka now," he added. "For some reason, we struggled a bit down in Atlanta. I'm counting on a much better effort out in Kansas."

Schumacher, who has never advanced to a final round in Topeka, presently holds fourth- place in the standings. He's just 10 points removed from Doug Kalitta in third and 35 points behind second-place Cory McClenathan.

"We're right in the thick of it," he offered. "We just have to start running with some consistency. Once that happens, we should be challenging for the lead."
