Top Alcohol Driver Danny Townsend to sit out 2007 NHRA Season

Milford, Michigan. Danny Townsend, seven-time NHRA North Central Division Champion, today announced his decision to take a "bye" on driving in 2007. The announcement came from Townsend's Muncie, Indiana home, where he is recovering from a final round accident at the September NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series (LODRS) event in Columbus, Ohio. "I'm just about 100% recovered from the crash," he said. "I feel great, but, based on discussions with my medical team, I believe it best that I pass on 2007 and look at 2008 for a come back."

In three years behind the wheel of the ParkerTech Racing Services Dodge, Townsend finished no lower than third in NHRA's North Central Division and fifteenth or better in NHRA National points. He won LODRS events in Indianapolis and Bradenton, Florida. Townsend twice qualified for the prestigious Jeg's Allstars event, earning a runner-up finish in 2005. In 2006 he tied for the Spitzer Race Cars Low Qualifier award in Division 3.

Townsend will remain with the ParkerTech Racing Services team in 2007, as a consultant. Frank Parker, team owner, stated "I know it will be hard for Danny to watch the car, instead of driving it, but he wants to stay involved with the team. His tuning and driving skills can't be played up enough and I couldn't be happier to have him on board."

Townsend's decision allows Parker time to secure a top driver from a short list that Townsend helped create. The team expects to announce both a new driver and primary sponsor within two weeks.
