1975 Don Prudhomme: Records 1st Funny Car 5 | 10 Top Finals Moment

Don “the Snake” Prudhomme capped a spectacular Funny Car season with an unprecedented sixth NHRA national event win in eight events, and he did it in vintage Prudhomme “rip-their-throats-out” style. Prudhomme, who had secured the championship before the event, blasted to the first 240-mph Funny Car pass in qualifying, then followed with a 6.15, 241.53 in round one. After a 6.17, 233 second-round victory, he uncorked the sport’s first five-second Funny Car pass, a 5.98 at 237.46 mph. Prudhomme then beat Denny Savage and the Austin Coil-tuned Chi-Town Hustler in the final with a 6.15, 240.61 shot.
