Engine Trouble Sidelines Kincaid Racing Team at Parker 425

February 10, 2010 - Although engine trouble dashed Kincaid Racing's hopes of placing at last week's Parker 425, team leader Scott Kincaid is pleased that his 900+ horsepower Trick Truck got off to a strong start at the legendary race.

"This was probably the most fun 35 miles I've ever had in a truck, even though the end result was disappointing," said Kincaid.

The Kincaid truck had qualified 10th in class and 30th overall in time trials on Thursday prior to the race. As the event kicked off on Saturday, team leader Kincaid was making great time driving a pace that might have placed him in the top ten by the end of the first lap.

"We were moving right through the pack, passing the first truck at mile eight and the next car at mile 10.5," noted Kincaid. "Our truck was making power and setting pace for a good run. We settled in, catching up to the next car at mile 20, but decided not to try passing in a rough area. That's when the motor let go."

As fate would have it, the Trick Truck's oil pump quit at mile marker 35, causing the engine to seize and forcing the team to drop out of the race.

"The Parker is known to have a killer attrition rate, as much as 50% in most years," said Kincaid team driver and veteran racer Stephen Cox. "It's definitely a race that can be tough on both the drivers and their machines."

BJ Baldwin won the race overall driving his number 97 truck, which took the number one position in the 1400 class. Sam Berri, driving a 1500 class unlimited car for his own team manned by a volunteer crew, took the pole position for the Best in the Desert season opener.

Joining Scott Kincaid and Cox at the Parker 425 were co-drivers Ronnie Markegard and Gary Kincaid. The Kincaid Racing pit crew was led by crew chief Cody Kirch.

The Kincaid Team is already looking forward to the next opportunity to race, according to Scott Kincaid.

"We are going to rebuild the engine bigger and better than it was, then figure out which race is next for us."
