CORR: Antigo rounds 3, 4 summary

Family (and sibling) rivalry spilling onto the track in the CORR Lucas Oil Series

Antigo, WI (June 12, 2005)-It is a unique situation in Championship Off Road Racing; two brothers and their brother-in-law battling for the top spot in the CORR Lucas Oil Series Pro-4 division. After Round 4 at the Mole Lake Regency Casino Off-Road Championships in Antigo, Wis., defending Pro-4 champion Jason Baldwin, along with Josh Baldwin and Carl Renezeder hold three of the top-four spots in the Pro-4 standings. In the Pro-2 division, Josh Baldwin and Renezeder are battling to keep close to Scott Taylor, the 6-time division champion.

In Round 3 of the Pro-4 division, it was a family affair at the podium celebration as Renezeder won his third straight Pro-4 race. Renezeder's Lucas Oil Chevrolet took the lead from Curt LeDuc on the fourth lap, and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way, holding off Jason (2nd) and Josh (3rd) Baldwin. In Round 4, Jason passed Johnny Greaves on the sixth lap, eventually holding off Renezeder for his first win of the season. Steve McCrossan finished third. In the Pro-4 standings, Renezeder has used three victories and a second-place finish to accumulate a 76-62 lead over Jason Baldwin. LeDuc (52 points) and Josh Baldwin (48 points) round out the top-four.

Starting outside of Row 1 in Round 3 of the Pro-2 division, Carl Renezeder took advantage of the front row start, bolting to the front of the field. Renezeder built a sizable lead over Evan Evans in the first half of the race, but Evans had to pull off the track because of mechanical problems. Taylor finished 2nd and Josh Baldwin finished 3rd.

In Round 4, Renezeder and Josh Baldwin fought for the lead throughout the race. At the start, Baldwin took the lead, with Dan Vanden Heuvel and Renezeder close behind. On the 8th lap, Renezeder passed Baldwin, and it appeared he was going to take the victory, but in dramatic fashion, Baldwin passed Renezeder on the final turn to earn his first career CORR win. Taylor finished 3rd in the race, and he maintains a 61-59 lead over Baldwin, with Renezeder in third-place with 54 points.

In the Pro-Lite division, Steve Federico and his PF Changs/Invisible Glass Toyota is in a situation he has not seen since his Rookie year in 2001; the lead in the division. Federico's third-place finish in Round 3 and second- place finish in Round 4 has given him a 62-55 lead over Chad Hord's BOSS Snowplow Nissan. Federico's lead was overshadowed by two Pro-Lite veterans who continue to climb the ladder in the standings.

Art Schmitt enjoys the trip to Antigo. In Round 3, Schmitt took the lead on the first lap, building an insurmountable lead in his Nissan Frontier, on his way to his 9th career CORR victory. Of his nine career Pro-Lite wins, four have taken place at the Langlade County Fairgrounds in Antigo. Hord finished 2nd, and Federico 3rd.

In Round 4, Lee O'Donnell held off three-time Pro-Lite champion Jeff Kincaid for the first four laps, but Kincaid's Forest County Potawatomi Toyota proved to be too strong, taking the lead from O'Donnell and winning for the second time in 2005. Federico finished 2nd, and defending champion Kyle LeDuc had his best finish of the season, placing 3rd. As Federico & Hord lead the division, Kincaid (53 points) and Schmitt (47 points) are easily within range for first place.

In the Sportsman 2 division, Ben Wandahsega used a second straight victory in Round 3 and a third-place finish in Round 4 to take a 70-59 lead over Dan Baudoux. In Round 4, Ross Hoek broke through for his first win in 2005 by holding off Baudoux (2nd) and Wandahsega (3rd). Mike Savage (54 points) continued his streak of top-four finishes by placing 3rd in Round 3 and 4th in Round 4.

Dave Walvogel (Round 3) and Rod Wells (Round 4) each picked up their first victories of 2005 in the Stock division. Waldvogel held off Keith Steele in Round 3 to earn his 3rd career CORR win. In Round 4, Waldvogel was in the mix as well, but Wells was able to keep a hold of first for his second career Stock win. With a 2nd place finish (Round 3) and a 3rd place finish (Round 4), Steele has a 62-57 lead over Waldvogel. Scott Beauchamp is third in the standings with 56 points.

In the Super Buggy division, Tim Lemons entered Round 3 with 38 career CORR starts and no victories. After sweeping Rounds 3 & 4, Lemons suddenly changed his racing resume, and moved from 12th place to 3rd place with 49 points, two points behind Mike Geiser (51 points). With a second-place finish in Round 3 and a third-place finish in Round 4, Aaron Hawley continues to lead the division with 66 points.

Michael Seefeldt, the 3-time Single Buggy division champion, continued his winning streak by winning Rounds 3 & 4 at Antigo. With three consecutive wins, Seefeldt has a 63-49 lead over defending champion Mark Steinhardt and John Fitzgerald. Steve Socha (45 points) is in fourth-place.

In the Light Buggy division, Jeff Virnig swept Rounds 3 & 4 at Antigo to move into a tie with Ben O'Connell for first place (66 points) in the division. O'Connell finished 2nd in Round 3 and 3rd in Round 4. Matt Gerald had two top-five finishes over the weekend to hold onto third-place with 44 points.
