Douglas Recovers From Trip to Woods, Rides Fan Support and Horsepower to Twin 3rd-Place Finishes at Crandon

CRANDON, WI -- Scott Douglas and the Rancho Suspension Ford F-150 made its move for the lead at, appropriately, the Rancho Suspension Jump at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway here Sunday, only to make an unscheduled jump off a 30-foot embankment after being hit by a competitor during the second of two Championship Off-Road Racing series points events.

Douglas was able to re-fire the engine, climb back onto the track (the truck that hit him, driven by Jason Baldwin, was black-flagged following the collision) and pick up all but two of the lost positions for a respectable third-place finish. The Rancho F-150 has pulled to within just five points of second position in the season-long championship battle.

The Rancho Ford also was the victim of circumstance in the first round of racing Saturday as a violent, two-truck collision ahead of Douglas cost the team at least three positions. Douglas reclaimed two of those spots to finish in third place.

"It was a wild ride out there," Douglas said. "The track owners sharpened several of the turns during the off-season and it caused most of us to dramatically change the way we drove the course. Those who didn't change their style were the ones who ended up causing wrecks. Unfortunately, one of those knocked us out of the lead on Sunday."

Douglas' recovery from Sunday's collision made for some of the best racing of the weekend. As the Rancho Ford picked off one competitor after another in its race for the lead, the record crowd at Crandon roared its approval. "We were clearly the crowd favorite out there," Douglas said. "This truck just amazes me with its power and handling. If we had a couple more laps on Sunday, I don't think there's any question that we would have made it all the way back to the front."

That new-found power is the result of the pairing of a new five-speed manual transmission from Weismann with the team's rock-solid, 410-cubic-inch Kinetic Racing Engines Ford Racing Technology V8. The truck also features a custom Rancho suspension and DynoMax ultra-high-flow exhaust system from Tenneco Automotive.
