CORR: Scott Taylor wins Governor's Cup at Crandon

Scott Taylor became the first Pro 2 driver to win the prestigious Governor's Cup Challenge race at Crandon International OffRoad Raceway. Wisconsin Governor Scott McCallum presented the trophy to the current Pro 2 champion.

Taylor's Mobil-1, BF Goodrich Ford F-150 became the first two-wheel drive truck to win the race. The annual Governor's Cup Heavy Metal Challenge race pits 800 hp 4x4 trucks against high performance 2-wheel drive trucks in a 10-lap shootout over Crandon's 1.75 mile course. The 4x4 trucks are the pinnacle of off-road racing machines and the 2-wheel drive trucks, which are at a disadvantage, received a 100-yard handicap at the start of the race.

The three-time consecutive Pro 2 champion, Taylor has raced off-road for the past 28-years and was one of the former Ford "Rough Riders". Taylor had 26 Pro 2 wins going into competition this weekend and had the Pro 2 points lead.

Taylor is use to stiff competition -- he has raced against Walker Evans, Winston Cup rookie Jimmie Johnson, and Craftsman Truck's Brendan Gaughan. One of the highlights in his off-road career was the year he beat Jimmie Johnson for the then SODA Class 8 Championship back in 1997.

Along with Rob MacCachren, Taylor was nominated to the 2001 All-America Auto Racing Team where he received an Honorable Mention in the At Large category. They were the fourth and fifth Championship Off-Road Racing drivers to have been recognized.

The 2000 and 2001 winner of the Cup race was Ford driver Rob MacCachren who sat out this year as he concentrates on the Best in the Desert series.

Current Ford driver Curt LeDuc won the inaugural Governor's Cup race in 1994.
