Team Renezeder ready to take next step in Pro-2 division.

Avon, Ind. (April 17, 2002) -- Carl Renezeder and his Lucas Oil Chevrolet are attempting to do what no Pro-2 driver has done since 1998. That is, beat Scott Taylor for the division championship. Seeking a fourth straight Pro-2 championship will certainly motivate Taylor for the upcoming CORR Lucas Oil Series, but Renezeder is one of the drivers who Taylor will have to keep an eye on starting in Edmeston, New York on May 25.

"We have nothing to lose and everything to gain," said Renezeder on his teams' attempt to compete for the 2002 Pro-2 championship.

Renezeder ended the 2001 season in 3rd place, one point behind second place driver Evan Evans. Renezeder's consistency from 1999 though 2001 yielded three straight 3rd place finishes in the division. In the last three years, he has 3 victories and 36 top-five finishes in 50 career CORR starts, making him a steady presence in the Pro-2 division.

For 2002, Team Renezeder is adding a new Pro-2 and Pro-4 truck. Renezeder will race the entire Pro-2 season, and the Pro-4 truck was added to his fleet for competition in the annual Governor's Cup and BorgWarner Championships at the Crandon International Off Road Raceway. If he does want to race in the Pro-4 division, Renezeder has the truck to win, he said.

"We need consistency. I think we have the formula for what we like and we know what works," noted Renezeder. "If we can carry that through a whole season we can win a championship."

The formula Renezeder referred to is how he fared in the final eight rounds of the 2001 season. In those rounds, he had two wins (Round 12-Bark River and Round 15-Topeka), three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes.

"If we could have a season like we did the second half of last year, we can do it," said Renezeder.

A few minor changes will be made to the set up that brought success to Team Renezeder during the final rounds of the 2001 season. He will stay with the automatic transmission in his newly built Pro-2 truck. Although it seemed he was going much faster in a manual transmission, Renezeder said when he ran an automatic, his lap times were faster.

Team Renezeder also announced that Bill Smith will take over as Crew Chief for the # 17 Lucas Oil Chevrolet, replacing Charlie Schlieve. In 2000, Smith was the Crew Chief for Rod Millen, who had finished second in the Pro-4 division with 6 wins. By adding Smith, Renezeder's operation will move from Wisconsin to his home state of California.

The 2002 CORR season will also add something new to Team Renezeder. The team's sponsor, Lucas Oil Products, came on board as the Series Title Sponsor of Championship Off Road Racing.

"I was excited because it makes the series stronger," said Renezeder. "By Lucas coming into the series it shows they're happy not only with what I'm doing, but they're happy with what CORR is providing to their sponsors."
