LOORS: Mitchell DeJong champion's report

Mitchell DeJong Crowned CHAMPION in 2010 Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series

Temecula, CA (December 22, 2010) - Speed Technologies/DeJong SuperKart's young-gun, Mitchell DeJong, wrapped up a championship for the holidays, making it his first Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series crown and sixth driving championship since 2007!

The road trip to the season finale at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona was pressure-free, as Mitchell had already put the Modified-Kart championship on lock-down after stretching his points lead beyond reach.

Mitchell fractured his wrist at the previous round in Las Vegas, Nevada; as a true competitor, he didn't let a casted broken wrist stop his opportunity to race the final race of the season. He qualified second and had a highly competitive final race, battling for the lead position until a less than tactical pass attempt by a competitor spun him out of podium contention, and finishing 10th for the day.

During the quest to the championship, Mitchell drove the Speed Technologies/DeJong SuperKart to 4 class victories, and 10 total podium finishes during the 15 race series. From round 1 to round 15, Mitchell commanded the leader-board and never looked back.

Mitchell shares his thoughts on the championship, "When I first started driving go-karts I was only a kid and all I knew was that it was the funnest thing I ever did. Now that I'm older (13 years old), I still think it's the funnest thing I ever did and I want to keep doing it. That's why I am really grateful to God, my parents and my sponsors who give me the opportunities to race. When I race, I race to win and when I win I'm not just winning for myself but for my whole team and sponsors!"

Crew chief and proud dad, Vince DeJong commented "We are very proud of Mitchell's accomplishments. To have 6 championships by the age of 13 just shows his drive and determination to win. For Mitchell to be able to stay ahead of the competition driving a stock Yamaha engine against those with modified engines shows he is a true champion!"
