The Rocketman Flies Past Competition - Sweeps Limited 2 in Crandon
Hemlock, MI (September 10, 2009) - Dan "The Rocketman" Baudoux dominated the TORC Limited 2 truck division at the 40th running of the Labor Day Weekend off-road races in Crandon, Wisconsin. For most of the year, "The Rocketman" has been competing in the PRO-2WD division, but for the second race weekend in a row, the #7 Mole Lake Casino Miller Lite BP BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 has been refitted to compete in Limited 2. The results couldn't have been any better.
The four hundred acre facility in the Northwoods of Wisconsin is known as the Indianapolis of off-road racing. The track and facility which is second to none, includes a paved pit area, nearly 500 camping spots, and room for 50,000 spectators to watch the best short course off road racers on the planet. The track improvement that were made earlier in the year have really improved the racing, not only is the track faster, but the track has more opportunities for clean passing.
Round 9 of the Limited 2 Championship was Friday night under the lights on Crandon's Short-Short track. The field was lined up in rows two trucks in a row midway through Turn One. Dan Baudoux started in the fourth row and immediately moved into second place by the second corner. On lap five, the Rocketman powered past #248 Johnson to take the lead and held the top spot all the way to the checkered flag.
After the racing, the Mole Lake Casino put brought out a couple of their card tables from the casino and set up a small free gaming area for race fans to win prizes, compliments of the Sokaogon Chippewa and the Mole Lake Casino.
The final round of the Limited 2 Championship was back on the traditional Crandon track which included the land rush start. On Saturday Dan grabbed the holeshot and led flag to flag, holding off #29 Steele for the win.
"That was fun," noted Dan Baudoux. "Last night we had to work a bit to get around Luke, and Keith kept the pressure on me all the way to the checkered. Now we will see how well the Mole Lake Rocket will with the big guys in PRO-2WD."
Rounds 10 and 11 of the TORC PRO-2WD Championship had the same result, both days, for the #7 Mole Lake Ford. Dan crossed the finish eleventh out of twenty PRO-2WD trucks.
"We are competing with at least 200 horsepower less than most of the field. We can run pretty well on tight tracks like Texas and California, but when we get to Crandon, horsepower is king. Overall we came out of the weekend without much damage to the truck considering we ran it in four races and completed every lap."
