WSORR Waiting Game Almost Over

CRANDON, Wisc. -- The wait only increases the anticipation. The wait enhances the experience. And the wait just makes the experience so much more memorable.

But the wait is almost over for the most anticipated off-road racing weekend of the season as the Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) brings its huge show to Crandon International Off-Road Raceway this coming Labor Day weekend. At stake will be a record weekend racer payout exceeding $180,000.

The wait ends August 31 -- September 2 as Crandon hosts the 2007 BorgWarner World Championship Off-Road Races0x00ae. Raceway officials are predicting a sellout crowd at off-road's "Big House".

The wait will be over for the inaugural "Decision at Sundown" PRO Light Pickup Challenge Cup race. That race featuring the largest purse in history of the class -- a plump $20,000+ -- is scheduled for this coming Friday, August 31 at 6 p.m. as part of the FCP Night of Thunder.

The wait will be over on "World Championship Saturday" as racers vie for annual off-road World Championship titles and rings.

Defending BorgWarner Shootout champion Scott Douglas will have waited 364 days for a shot at his third BorgWarner Cup win. "It's been a great year as the reigning BorgWarner Shootout champion," he said. "We dominated at last years' World Championships and I know this has meant a lot to my program and to my key sponsors such as Amsoil, Kumho Tires, Ford Trucks and more," he said.

"I'd like to pull off the hat trick and get my third Shootout win, plus I'll be at the starting line to defend my PRO 4x4 World Championship title," said the hotshoe from El Cajon, Calif. "You can never have enough Crandon World Championships rings. But I know I have a target on my back and guys like Carl, Josh, Taylor, Curt, Oberg, Johnny G., Adrian, Kent -- they all want it," he said, ticking off a list of racers gunning to stop Douglas.

"We know we are really fast," he said. "We won a big World Series Crandon round earlier in the season. We have been fast in practice at Crandon, too. So, my strategy is to keep an eye on the other competitors, stay out of trouble and get through the high-speed traffic. We are confident we are pretty quick and ready to win again," Douglas said.

Douglas was referring to previous Shootout champions including Carl Renezeder (Newport Beach, Calif.), Scott Taylor (Bellvidere, Ill.), Curt LeDuc (Cherry Valley, Calif.), John Greaves (Abrams, Wisc.) and other hot racers.

Adrian Cenni (New York, N.Y.) was runner-up to Douglas last year. Josh Baldwin, Laguna Beach, Calif., enters a new 4x4 truck and was a previous FCP Chairman's Cup champion at Crandon. Kent Brascho (Pell City, Ala.) has looked strong this year and in previous Cup races while Mike Oberg is the defending Jason Baldwin Cup winner on the Championship Off-Road Racing circuit and nearly won this year's FCP Chairman's Cup race.

Crandon kicks off the weekend with its annual downtown World Championship Labor Day Parade on Friday, August 31 at Noon. That is followed by the Nissan Motorsports/NISMO Time Trials for the BorgWarner Shootout at 2 p.m. Then at the FCP Night of Thunder, a 6 p.m. start will be given for the much-anticipated "Decision at Sundown" followed by class racing for WSORR Formula 4x4, Enduro, Classix and Trophy Kart racing.
