SCCA Formula Ford standout will make his pro debut with Illinois team

ROCKFORD, ILL. (April 1, 2010) - Liberty Motorsports is pleased to announce the signing of American Tim Kautz for the 2010 edition of the F2000 Championship Series. As part of a multi-car effort by the Illinois-based team, the SCCA Club Racing Formula Ford standout will make his pro racing debut piloting a Liberty Motorsports Van Diemen in all 14 rounds of the highly competitive developmental race series.

Liberty Motorsports enters the 2010 season with a revised focus on achieving success in the pro Formula Ford 2000 ranks. As part of this plan, the Illinois squad will contest the entire F2000 Championship Series this coming season, determined to not only challenge for race wins, but also the series title. In signing Kautz - a multiple SCCA Club Racing Division champion and National race winner - to drive the No. 36 Liberty Motorsports Van Diemen, the team believes it has a driver more than capable to meet those goals. Kautz, who will be making both his pro and Formula Ford 2000 debuts in 2010, will be joined by series and class veteran Bobby Caldwell under the Liberty Motorsports awning throughout the season.

"I'm thrilled to be joining Liberty Motorsports for the 2010 F2000 Championship Series season," said Kautz. "I know it won't be easy challenging for wins and the title, but I'm confident the guys will give me all the tools to succeed, so it's just up to me to perform on-track."

"I am very excited to have a driver of Tim's caliber join our team for the 2010 season," said Team Owner Brian Belardi. "With his talent, we fully anticipate Tim to have multiple race wins and challenge seriously for the series title."

A native of Geneva, Ill., Kautz joins Liberty Motorsports having rapidly established himself as a leading force in the SCCA Club Racing Formula Ford ranks. Initially involved in racing via a working relationship with Piper Racing founder Don Sievenpiper, Kautz first got behind the wheel during a year-end Formula Ford private test in 2003. Showing superb pace in his inaugural outing, it was not long before he was back in the cockpit, taking part in SCCA Club Racing competition. After two seasons of chassis development and driver growth, he was winning races and challenging for titles. Over the course of the past three seasons, Kautz has become one the drivers to beat in the highly competitive Formula Ford class, winning two SCCA Division titles, and numerous National races, including the prestigious June Sprints and seven of nine races last season. Kautz narrowly missed winning the 2009 SCCA National Championship title, leading the majority of the race until a dramatic final lap incident.

Kautz and the rest of the Liberty Motorsports squad commence their pursuit of the F2000 Championship Series title on April 10-11, with VIRginia International Raceway hosting Rounds One and Two.
