NA-F2000: Sellers awarded Team USA Scholarship

U.S. F2000 Driver Named To Team USA

FAIRFIELD, N.J. (November 5, 2001)^×This past weekend U.S. F2000 National Championship driver Bryan Sellers was awarded the prestigious Team USA Scholarship.

Sellers, of Centerville, Ohio, was one of two drivers, along with A.J. Allmendinger, selected from a list of 12 drivers. Sellers earned the selection following a forum at the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey, where he met with a panel of auto racing writers and Team USA supporters, and contested a shootout at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Jim Russell Racing Drivers School cars.

In 2001, Sellers contested a limited campaign in U.S. F2000, running eight races with two different teams. He captured two top-10 finishes, with a best finish at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, when he moved up seven positions in the race, finishing seventh.

Begun in 1990, the Team USA Scholarship was created to assist aspiring up and coming American drivers. By establishing contacts in the racing industry, meeting various team, chassis and engine representatives, and contesting winter series championships, past winners have benefited extensively from this program and moved up the racing ladder. Sellers joins fellow U.S. F2000 drivers Memo Gidley, Jeret Schroeder, Andy Lally and Buddy Rice as Team USA Scholarship winners.

This year Team USA will contest the New Zealand International Formula Ford Championship. The Championship will consist of eight races over four weekends in January and early February, and features the prestigious New Zealand Grand Prix and the Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy. Sellers and Allmendinger will drive two new Stealth Formula Ford cars prepared and maintained by John Crawford, a former New Zealand Formula Ford Champion. Both drivers will be looking to continue the success of Team USA, which has won the past two Palmer Winter Series Championships.

"The Scholarship is the greatest award I've ever received in my racing career," said Sellers. "While I've had a trying season in U.S. F2000, I think the level of competition and professionalism of the series has taught me a lot. The goal now is to go to New Zealand, try to win some races and represent my country in the best way possible."
