CAMIRAND COMPLETES DREAM WEEKEND WITH HOMETOWN F2000 WIN

TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec, Canada - Marc-Antoine Camirand recorded a flag-to-flag win on the streets of his hometown at Le Grand Prix Player's de Trois-Rivieres to score his third win of the season and extend his point lead in the U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision. Martin Guimont, of Laval, Quebec, and England's Dan Wheldon completed the top-three.

Camirand, who started from the pole in the No. 96 Player's/Key Motorsport Van Diemen Ford, went unchallenged for the duration of the 30-lap, 45.18-mile contest to beat his countryman Guimont by 1.588 seconds, averaging 76.019 mph.

On Camirand's victory lap, he saluted the standing-room-only crowd, which responded with deafening cheers for its hometown hero.

"It was a perfect weekend," said Camirand, 20. "Key Motorsport gave me a fantastic car. I wanted to win because I had a lot of friends and family along with the Player's people watching. There was a lot of pressure. It's nice to do a press conference in French."

Guimont, in the No. 80 Orion Packaging Van Diemen Ford, started third and moved past Wheldon on lap seven to record his first-ever U.S. F2000 podium finish.

"I had a very solid start and knew I had to go after Wheldon at the start or he'd probably pull away," said Guimont about his one-off appearance. "I'm very happy to finish second. I had a lot of fun."

Wheldon started second in the No. 5 Jayhard/Primus Van Diemen Ford and was fastest in the morning warm-up, but had to settle for third, behind the two Canadians.

"To be honest it was a pretty disappointing race for us," said the leading rookie contender. "We came hear going for the win, but had to settle for third. I think Marc-Antoine was pretty cautious at the start and I was able to close up. Once he got going he just pulled away."

Jonathan Bottoms, of Buffalo, N.Y., finished fourth, followed by Aaron Justus, of Vista, Calif. Galen Puccini, of Simi Valley, Calif., advanced seven positions (18th to 11th) to earn the Taylor Race Engineering "Shark" Award.

Camirand extended his Drivers' Championship point lead over Wheldon to 22 points (216 to 194).
