Zwartkops To Host Pro Tour Formula Vee Round Four

The first three rounds, of the 2007 South African National Formula Vee Championship, have produced plenty of good close racing and round four, to be run at Zwartkops International World of Motoring on the 30th June, should provide even more of the same close racing action. So far, the season has been characterized by the battle of the current and ex Champions, at the head of the field but with an anticipated entry of thirty cars, for the Zwartkops race, there should be plenty of good close racing action all the way down the field as well.

The big question on everyone's lips is, when someone will beat Holm to the line. Although the racing has been extremely close, it has always been the reining Champion Alan Holm (No1 Lasersprint Rhema 2) who has had his nose in front at the flag, even though the gap has been as little a hundredth of a second. Trying their best, to unseat him, will be the 1999 Champion Peter Hills (No2 Vacuform Rhema 2), the 2000 Champion Dennis Johns (No 8 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2) and the 2004 Champion Symm Grobler (No5 Auto Mecca Rhema 2). Their strongest challenge should come from Jaco Schriks (No3 Lasersprint Rhema 2) who produced his best performance of the year, at the previous round in East London.

An interesting development, is the acquisition of the ex Andre Van Der Merwe Jnr Rhema 2, by Association Chairman Jannie Geyser and the No7 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2, could be one of the dark horses in the field at Zwartkops. At time of going to print, Hollard Shelby Can Am driver Darren Lobb was talking to Alan Holm, about the possibility of hiring Holm's Rhema 1, for the Zwartkops event. If the deal materializes Lobb will have a busy day, competing in both the Hollard Shelby Can Am races, in his No 4 DK Woodcraft Shelby Can Am and the Formula Vee Races, in the Rhema 1.

Kyle Bennett (No89 AIE Plastics Rhema 1) and Trevor Bland (No6 Rhema 2) can be counted on to give another good account of themselves and a whole host of drivers should be fighting it out, for the balance of the points scoring positions. These include the development drivers, Courtney Steenveld (No23 NLDTF Indy Oils Rhema 1) and Zaahir Essa (No71 NLDTF Rhema 1), as well as sixteen year old ex Karter Dean Lester (No69 Rigidek Rhema 2), James Leach (No52 Rhema 1), Ben Pienaar (No101 BJ Pro Welding Rhema 1), Gert Van Den Berg (No40 Rhema1), Gareth Jackson (No10 Lasersprint Rhema 2), Johan Gouws (No27 Computer Assembly Mantis), Bradley Martin (No14 Rhema 2), Kevin Cartmell (No17 Rand Brake Sting) and Andre Van Der Merwe (No21 Atlas Dry Cleaners Lantis).

Bobby Nel (No20 Lantis ) seems to have resolved his overheating problems and could also end up challenging for a points scoring position at Zwartkops, while Alan Kernick (No38 Distributor Repairs Randburg Tasman) and Jody Robertson (No 4 Rhema 1) could be in the field and challenging for points, as well. Looking to gain further experience and racing for the first time at Zwartkops, will be newcomers Luck Tomaides (No120 Midrand Diesel and Turbo Rhema 2), Charles Roets (No41 Sting) and Andre Van Tonder (No32 Tasman).

With races for Hollard Shellby Can Am, Investchem Formula Ford Zetec, Formula Vee, Altech Porsche Unlimited, Altech Porsche 924, Altech Kawasaki ZX10 Masters Cup, Goldwagen VW Challenge, Super Saloons and Thunderbikes, it is an event not to be missed. See you at Zwartkops.
