Young Illinois Woman Has 20 Wins Already in 2010

BRASELTON, Ga. (Sept. 27, 2010) -- Ashley Freiberg was focused on producing a strong 2010 racing campaign when she strapped on her racing helmet for the opening race of the year.

Little did the 18-year-old from Homer Glen, Ill., know that she would enjoy the best performance of her young racing career.

In nine months, Freiberg has scored 20 feature wins already in 2010.

And she will attempt to add to her win total with another victory on Oct. 1-2 in the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National presented by Mazda at Road Atlanta, part of the Petit LeMans weekend.

Freiberg, a recent nominee for the prestigious Team USA Scholarship, also has scored a number of firsts in 2010.

Ashley was the first woman to win a Skip Barber racing series when he captured the Barber Southern Regional title in May. Freiberg was also the first woman to win a BFGoodrich/Barber National race when she drove to victory at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in July. She currently leads the Barber Summer Series point standings in a quest to capture two Barber titles in a single year.

"This year has been quite a ride for me," said Freiberg, who currently ranks fifth in the BFGoodrich/Barber National point standings.

"When I heard that I won 20 races this year, I had to double-check the math!" she said. "I have been working very hard this season, both on and off the track to better my performance. I still cannot fully comprehend everything I have accomplished this season."

Freiberg scored three wins in four races on Sept. 18-19 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and leads the Barber Summer Series by 31 points.

"I am focusing on the Road Atlanta weekend now," Freiberg said. "I was taken out in the last National race (at Road America). I was in the lead and was hit from behind. My number one goal next week is to finish the Road Atlanta races. Hopefully finish one on top of the podium!"

Freiberg hopes to wrap up another Barber title on Oct. 8-9 at Lime Rock Park in the Summer Series finale.

"Right now, I just want to race and keep focusing forward," she said. "I want to finish well at Road Atlanta in the National and hopefully wrap up the Championship at Lime Rock in the Summer Series. Then I can work on programs for the 2011 season. I'm working hard on gaining sponsors for next year. I spend many hours during the week preparing to move into the next level of racing."

More victories in 2010 will help Freiberg in her attempt to move to the next racing level, too.
