RACER LLOYD AIMING TO PUT KIRKWOOD HOSPICE IN POLE POSITION

Kirkwood Hospice is to benefit from the support of Huddersfield-based racing driver Daniel Lloyd, the 18-year-old having pledged to donate a proportion of any winnings accrued on track during the course of 2010 to the registered charity.

Competing in the American-based BF Goodrich/Skip Barber National Championship presented by Mazda this season, Daniel has already made an excellent start to his maiden year of single-seater car racing action and is currently equal eighth in the driver standings.

Ahead of the third event of 2010 at Virginia International Raceway later this month, the reigning ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup Champion will not only be aiming for his first podium in Skip Barber, he will have the added incentive of trying to secure the best results possible to benefit the hospice.

"Kirkwood Hospice does an unbelievable job in my local area for people suffering from awful illnesses and I feel it's important to do my bit to help boost awareness of the work the hospice does and to also try and raise as much money as I can through my racing", said Daniel, "None of us know when we, or our family and friends, might need the help and support of a hospice -- the service Kirkwood provides is absolutely essential."

The Huddersfield based hospice provides vital, specialist care for people across the Kirklees area who are living with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, late-stage heart failure and severe lung disease. Fully respecting the wishes and needs of each individual, Kirkwood's aim is to help its patients achieve the very best quality of life possible.

Alongside treatment for the physical symptoms of any given illness, the hospice also offers emotional and spiritual support and families, friends and carers are offered further assistance and help during the period of a patient's illness and in bereavement.

During the coming year alone, Kirkwood Hospice needs to raise almost 0x00a33.5 million from voluntary sources to help achieve the 0x00a34million annual operational budget required -- just 20 per cent of the total amount is covered by local Primary Care Trusts.

Daniel's next track action in the USA will come just over a week from now, 24th/25th April, at Virginia International Raceway for the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2010 BF Goodrich/Skip Barber National Championship presented by Mazda.
