After the first Day of unofficial testing at the Homestead-Miami Speedway for the second round of the Barber Dodge Pro Series, Nilton Rossoni is continuing the good form brought him victory last weekend at Sebring.

Twenty-six drivers took part in today's two test sessions on Homestead's modified oval. Unlike the CART Champ Cars racing here this weekend, the Barber Dodge drivers will use the banked Homestead oval through turns-1and 2, but deviate off just before turn-3 to take a series of fast dog-leg left hand bends before a right-left chicane that rejoins the oval at the exit of turn-4.

Rossoni headed a train of 22 drivers who are within one second of another. Rossoni lapped the 1.4125-mile circuit in 0:43.057 sec. for an average speed of 118.099 mph.

"We had no trouble today, everything was o.k.," said the Brazilian, a former Formula Chevrolet Brazil race winner. "We knew the car when we got here (from Sebring), and we were able to improve the car throughout the session."

Andy Lally of Northport, N.Y. is making his first Barber Dodge Pro Series appearance. The 1999 Valvoline Team USA member, along with '98-'99 Pro Series champ Jeff Simmons, shone brightly on first acquaintance with his Barber Dodge Reynard on the Homestead track. He finished the day with a quick lap of 0:43.129 sec., just 0.072 sec. shy of leader Rossoni.

Third quick was Dutchman Sepp Koster, who's lap at 0:43.187 puts him hot on Lally's heels. Koster shed some light on his driving strategy following the session.

"The key is to run as little downforce as possible," he ellucidated. "It's not just a question of drag, but also of stability. If you have to make a lot of little corrections (because of prevailing winds or turbulence) you lose time." <pre> ROUND 2 Homestead-Miami Speedway Homestead, Florida March 23, 2000 TEST SESSION 2
