Jonatan Jorge starts last and wins at Formula Barber Dodge in Daytona
Brazilian driver Jonatan Jorge (Montoya Racing/Dedgewater Construction/TL Racing) won the 6th Round of the Formula Barber Dodge - Southern Championship / Group 1, this past Sunday in Daytona, FL, after starting in the last position in the grid.
Jorge was the pole sitter, but another driver's crash into the back of his car at the starting line interrupted the race. As Jorge's car needed repairs, forcing him to start from the back of the pack. Demonstrating an amazing adaptation to both the car and the circuit, Jonatan Jorge had a spectacular start and - in the 8th lap - took over the lead until the end of the race.
On Saturday, in the 5th Round, Jorge also scored the pole as well as winning the race with a start-to-finish lead. Jorge, who also set the fastest lap during both races, maintains the the lead of the championship in points, with five wins (in six races), one second place, five pole-positions as well as scoring the fastest lap in five events.
Other Brazilian drivers with good performances were Christiano Piquet, who also won both rounds after starting on the pole in Group III, and Eduardo Marques Jr., who attained a second place in Group II on Saturday, after securing the pole. On Sunday, in an audacious move for the lead, Marques dropped to last, but finished the race in 8th - marking a nice overall, recovery performance. The next event will be held in Sebring, FL, in February.
