SBRS: Series Road America rounds 11, 12 preview

After a one-year hiatus, the future stars of the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National return to Road America in support of the American Le Mans Series and the Time Warner Cable Road Racing Showcase. This weekend, twenty-two drivers will be taking the field at the historic track in Rounds 11 and 12 of the 2010 championship.

Coming into the penultimate weekend of the 2010 season, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development driver Spencer Pigot leads the points. With four poles, two wins and nine top-five finishes in ten races, the Windermere, Fla. driver holds a 21-point advantage over second place Isaac Lyons. Pigot also leads the rookie standings by 46 points over fellow MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development driver Felix Serralles.

Second in points, Isaac Lyons looks to bounce back after a controversial penalty in the last race of the series. After taking the Round 10 victory at New Jersey Motorsports Park, race series officials assessed a 25-second time penalty on the Northern Ireland driver for blocking, taking the win and dropping him to ninth in the official results. With three wins and two poles and eight top-ten finishes, not to mention a victory on this track last year in the Skip Barber Summer Race Series, look for Lyons to be a factor all weekend.

Two drivers who will have fonder memories of The Garden State are Haines City, Florida driver Felix Serralles and Homer Glen, Illinois native Ashley Freiberg, who both scored their first career Skip Barber National victories at New Jersey Motorsports Park. After being the first female driver to win a Skip Barber Race Series overall championship this past winter, Freiberg became the first woman to win a BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Race at NJMP. The wins at New Jersey put both Freiberg in Serralles into a three-way tie for third in the championship with Cape Coral, Fla. driver Dennis Trebing, who picked up wins earlier in the season at Homestead- Miami Speedway and Sebring International Raceway.

Skip Barber Racing School recently welcomed California Scents and Parathyroid.com on board as contingency award sponsors for the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National. National driver will now compete for the $500 California Scents California Scents Pole Award and $500 California Scents Most Progressive Driver Award. Parathyroid.com stepped up at the beginning of the season with the "Parathyroid.com Winner's Circle Award", for the top three points earners at each race weekend; $500 going to the top points earner, $300 and $200 to second and third respectively.
