Montreal, April 30 -- It is now official! Young Montreal driver Kuno Wittmer from De Sigi Autosport team will team up with Gelles Racing Team for the 2003 season in the Fran-Am Series. This new single seater series is taking North America by storm and it could become the next stepping stone for any young driver vying for a seat in motorsport top series. After decisive testing earlier this month, team owner Robert Gelles decided to signup with the 20 year-old driver who has experience in Formula Atlantic, Formula Ford, Grand Am series and who won in 2002 the roadracing chamionship, in Quebec. Wittmer joins an experienced crew who will line up three young and promising drivers : beside Kuno, Winter Series Title Holder Brit Charles Hall And Antoine Bessette from St-Hilaire, Quebec will complete the team.

"I believe we will be one of the strongest teams in this series," admitted Kuno. the staff on this team has an array of experience from Formula One to Atlantic. I felt immediately at home with them and the Fran Am 2000 car is fun to drive. This series will be highly competitive and I think I can expect some success. There are 13 races scheduled in the United States, Canada and Mexico, but five will be held in Canada at major events and three in Quebec. This is just wonderful!"

Gelles spells experience

Robert Gelles has indeed put together a crew with an impressing resume. Chief Engineer Rodolfo Lolo Perdomo was in Brazil working at the Grand Prix with Jordan just weeks ago. Engineer Yvan Turcotte worked with Champ Car, at the Indy 500 while Charlie Perreault enjoys a longtime curriculum as Chief Mechanic. Wittmer and Bessette will appreciate working in their mother tongue with three members since the semi driver, Denis Montpellier, is also from Quebec. "I feel very confident with quality people like Bob, Lolo, Yvan and Charlie," added Wittmer. You know you're going to find the proper setup with those guys. The Fran-Am looks a lot like the Atlantic car I used to drive. This coming weekend in Phoenix, I will have a lot of track time to get used to the car. I'll make the best out of it. "

A modern racing machine

If the Fran-Am 2000 Series is gaining ground every week -- a 1600 series is also getting started and a V6 series is coming next year -- it's maily because it's a lot of a racing machine. The carbon fiber chassis comes from Italian Manufacturer Tatuus, the 2 Litre Renault F4R 180 HP engine is built by Sodemo and it is coupled to a six-speed sequential gearbox. main components are sealed and the only possible ajustments are the suspension, the wings and the Michelin tires.

Kuno Wittmer, star driver of Sigi Autosport is sponsored by Depanneurs Couche-Tard, the largest convenience store chain in Canada, Da Giovanni Restaurants, Vittorio Uniforms, Autoskin, Bomar Radios, Journal de Montreal, The Gazette, Chomedey Auto Radio, Fix Auto Rosemont, Saint-Rose Honda and Honda de Sigi.
