Motorsport Veteran for New-Look Porsche Carrera Cup Asia

Influential regional motorsport veteran Ian Ross Geekie will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the new-look Porsche Carrera Cup Asia next season as he takes the reigns as series Manager with immediate effect.

One of the most respected and experienced figures in Asian motorsport, Geekie played a key role in establishing the region's premier sportscar series, and setting new benchmarks in the level of professionalism in the sport.

In his role as series Manager, Geekie will be responsible for all aspects of driver and team liaison, the technical supervision of EKS Motorsports and service teams, and for bringing new competitors into the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.

He returns as the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia prepares to take significant steps forward next season, with both the new 2010 GT3 RS-based Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car and a change to the regulations to allow the entry of private teams: "This is an exciting time for the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia," says Geekie "I am very much looking forward to maximising the countless opportunities open to us as we welcome private teams for the first time, and continue to attract the cream of GT competitors from around the region and beyond."

Geekie will work closely with Porsche Asia Pacific, the regional headquarters for the iconic marque, creating a strong leadership team as the series comes of age. Says Porsche Asia Pacific Motorsport Manager, Christoph Choi: "We're delighted to have Ian on board. It is crucial that we take full advantage of the new regulations, and the stunning new race car, to take a major leap forward in terms of the maturity of the series. Asian motorsport has really come of age, and so has the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. With Ian on the team, we'll be ideally placed to build an even more exciting and dynamic series."

UK-born Geekie began his career with Porsche Australia while studying engineering. He won a scholarship, and moved to Porsche AG in Germany, later becoming a Porsche Sports Driving Instructor.

Now based in Asia for more than two decades, as well as being a keen competitor himself, Geekie has been involved in running a number of successful series including the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. He has earned the respect of the motorsport fraternity through his professionalism and commitment to the development of the sport, both of which he will put to good use in his new role.
