Carrera Cup continues to entice high-profile drivers

Australia. V8 Supercar driver and twice Bathurst 1000 winner Steven Richards is the latest high-profile driver to join Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.

Richards will add a new chapter to his distinguished motorsport career by competing in the 2011 Carrera Cup season after 15 years of full-time V8 Supercar racing.

After recently taking delivery of his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, Richards,, 2011 Carrera Cup campaign will begin at the Formula 1TM Qantas Australian Grand Prix from March 24-27, 2011, where he will aim to head the 22-car field in the Porsche one-make categorys first event since late-2008.

"Im looking forward to becoming part of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia. Its going to be a great competitive series and having a full grid of cars is a great way to kick off the relaunched championship. Im definitely looking forward to getting out there at the Australian Grand Prix," said Richards.

"Our aim for this year is to win the championship. Its wont be easy - its a competitive field and there are a few other drivers out there hoping to do the same. Itll make for an interesting start to season.

"Theres no doubt were going to see some very competitive racing at the pointy end of the grid and throughout the entire field."

Richards 15-year V8 Supercar career to date featured 426 race starts, 52 top-three finishes and seven wins, along with two Bathurst 1000 victories in 1998 and 1999.
