TWO MORE CHAMPIONS IN INTERNATIONAL MOTORSPORT'S 50TH YEAR
Porsche GT3 Cup Car drivers Andrew Bagnall and Ant Pedersen are the newest New Zealand Endurance Series Champions following their win at the Altherm 1000 at Hampton Downs last weekend.
The win comes in International Motorsport's 50th year of preparing and running race cars at the highest level in New Zealand and overseas. International Motorsport General Manager Nick Williamson says he's thrilled with the result of Bagnall and Pedersen over the weekend. "Both Andrew (Bagnall) and Ant (Pedersen) have been racing with us for a few years now, and to win the Endurance Series has been a real boost to them and the team".
The team now is in preparation for the fourth round of the 2010/11 New Zealand Porsche GT3 Cup Championship at the New Zealand Grand Prix CRC 200 meeting at Manfeild this weekend. Jonny Reid will contest his Rayglass/Giltrap Group GT3 as he still keeps the heat on for the title against Daniel Gaunt and Craig Baird. Reid has remained consistent all season and scored his first win of the year at Timaru in January. "It seemed to be a long time coming but was what we needed to keep the pressure on Daniel (Gaunt) for the title." Said Reid. "I'm looking forward to getting back to Manfield this weekend, we won the round there last year and I'll be looking to repeat my result again this time."
Team mate Mitchell Cunningham is gearing up for Manfield too. "You forget how good the North Island tracks are, I'm really looking forward to a strong performance at Manfield. We've had a bit of bad luck this year, but have done well when we've had a clean run." Cunningham is currently in 5th in the championship.
Over in the Production Racing camp is Simon Sceats in the Mondiale / Audi Dealer Network S3 also being run by International Motorsport. The South Island rounds over January saw an improved performance and the first win for the Audi, a vast improvement on the first half of the season for the newly prepared car. Sceats will also contest a Suzuki in this weekend's event as a first time runner in the class.
Dan Bagnall will again compete in the Production Racing Series in his New Zealand Roadside Assistance Mini while his brother Richard will sit out this round following his big crash at Timaru at the last round.
Qualifying and Race 1 for all classes is on Saturday, Races two and three for the team is on Sunday.
