Motorsport.com can reveal that Nelson Piquet will make his return to the racetrack this week, at the age of 62.
Piquet will test a Porsche GT3 Cup Brasil car, as the series launches its 10th anniversary season at the Curitiba circuit.
Along with other drivers in the series, he will take part in the tests and later define his schedule and a date for his debut in the series.
Piquet first drove a Porsche GT3 Cup car at the same track last September, when he took part in a test session along with his son Pedro.
Pedro, the Brazilian F3 champion, later became the series' youngest-ever winner at 16 years old, when he won from pole position in the Brazilian Grand Prix support race at Interlagos.
Now his father could also join the series, and has until Thursday to confirm his entry in the Curitiba double-header that opens the season.
The former Brabham and Williams star, who also raced for Ensign, Lotus and Benetton, claimed 23 grand prix victories in his 14-year F1 career.
His last race was in 2006, when he shared victory in the Mil Milhas race at Interlagos in an Aston Martin DBR9 with his son Nelson Jr, Helio Castroneves and Jean-Christophe Bouchut.
Piquet is actually no stranger to GT-type cars, having raced for BMW in the Nurburgring 1000Km in the early 1980s, and contested the Le Mans 24 Hours in the '90s.
