SOLID START TO SEASON FOR GEDDIE

Aberdeen's Glynn Geddie managed to bag points in both of today's races as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season opened at Thruxton this weekend. Having had a difficult time in qualifying yesterday, the BRDC Rising Star improved on his grid positions to finish 7th and 5th respectively, making a solid start to the season on a track he admits he does not get on too well with.

Having made a good start in Race 1, Geddie, running in P8, set out to attack his new Team Parker Racing team mate and former BTCC race winner Stephen Jelley. Geddie managed to get alongside Jelley several times throughout the early stages of the race but was struggling with a loss of power and was unable to overtake.

The pair were each promoted a place when Michael Meadows pulled into the pits with mechanical problems, and ended up in a three-car chase for P5 with Charlie Bateman. The Apex Tubulars-backed number 7 car of Geddie managed to stay with them, despite his own mechanical troubles, but was unable to make it through. He eventually crossed the line in 7th place, narrowly behind Jelley, and collected nine points for the opening of his 2010 campaign.

Race 2 got under way with Geddie making a superb start off the line from P8, taking two cars before Turn 1 and tucking himself right up behind Michael Caine in the opening stages. Caine got in front of Tom Bradshaw, who was Geddie's next victim, and he was also challenging Meadows as the race progressed - at one point following him across the chicane but fortunately not damaging the front splitter.

Although still suffering from the ghosts in the machine that had hindered his progress in Race 1, Geddie held onto P5 for the remainder of the race and menaced Bradshaw; however he ran out of time to line up a move and the chequered flag dropped after 21 laps with Geddie taking 5th.

Glynn Geddie:

"The car didn't feel quite right in Race 1 and I was struggling for power. I'm sure if I had been able to get past Stephen (Jelley) I would have been able to move on through the field and collect a few more points though. I didn't have a 2nd gear at all throughout Race 2 which made it quite difficult.

"It's disappointing not to start our season with a podium but I feel we achieved the best results we could with the car we had today, and we grabbed a few points. Thruxton isn't exactly one of my favourite circuits and it's good to get the first race out of the way, so I guess the season will properly start for us at Rockingham."

Geddie lies 6th in the championship with 21 points as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB heads to Rockingham, Northamptonshire, in three weeks time.
