VISTEON PANOZ VANQUISHES VEGAS OPPOSITION
Las Vegas, April 26 -- The #4 Visteon Panoz driven by Andy Wallace and David Brabham sprinted to a decisive class victory at the Toshiba Copiers and Fax Nevada Grand Prix. It was the second win for Visteon in the GT-1 class.
Starting from second position, Andy Wallace led the race within 20 minutes. After battles with many of the WSC cars, especially the Doyle-Risi WSC Ferrari, the Visteon Panoz Racing Team fought for an overall win, and finished only 0.445 seconds behind the #7 Ferrari.
"It was a fantastic race," said David Brabham, who was piloting the #4 Visteon Panoz in the final confrontation with the Ferrari. "Wayne (Taylor, Ferrari driver) and I were very evenly matched. Congratulations to Ferrari for a great run. All the guys here with the Visteon Panoz Racing Team did a great job -- everything ran like clockwork."
The Visteon Panoz team finished second overall and first in the GT-1 class at the 1998 12 Hours of Sebring. During that race, the team fought back from a low starting position and a broken front splitter take the class win.
"Incredible, that's the only word which adequately describes our joy at this moment," says Charles W. Szuluk, president Visteon Automotive Systems. "This is a great day for the Visteon Panoz Racing Team."
The Visteon Panoz Racing Team's next race is in Homestead, Florida the weekend of May 16-17.
An enterprise of the Ford Motor Company, Visteon has over 79,000 employees and nearly a century of automotive parts experience. It is comprised of seven systems divisions -- Powertrain, Chassis, Glass, Interior, Exterior, Electronics, and Climate Control -- and more than 30 sales, engineering, and technical centers in 19 countries around the world.
