The American Road Rally Association will host the "Big Bend Two-Step" Open Road Race April 4 - 7, 2001. The race, from Fort Stockton to Sanderson, TX and back on US HWY 285, is 59 miles each direction.
Over 200 driver/navigator teams are expected to compete in this year's event. Vehicles entered range from everyday street vehicles to exotic sports cars. There are 22 classes in 7 divisions. Speeds begin at 85 mph had increase in increments of 5 mph up to 170 mph. Then there is the Unlimited Division where there is no limit on what you can run.
Registration, technical inspection, practice and qualifying sessions are held Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The city of Sanderson sponsors a welcoming party Thursday evening. Friday there is also a parade in Fort Stockton. Saturday, US Hwy 285 is closed from 6:00am to 5:00pm as racers compete in the various classes and divisions.
