* - Ron Cremen, the Australian rally driver will not take part as a driver in this year championship, he will be a team manager of four-time Kuwait National Champion Mohammed Al Sarraf for the full Middle East Championship.
Team Ron Cremen Rallysport/Rallyhire under the sponsorship of Marlboro and with the support of Ralliart and Silverstone Tyres will give Mohammed his best chance yet of becoming MERC Group N Champion.
As the first event (Abu Dhabi) has been postponed until later in the year, the team's first event will be Qatar in February.
Ron has team managed for Mohammed in 1999 and 2000, but they only had the budget to contest five events in those years making it impossible to win Group N. For 2002 they will contest all seven or eight events giving Mohammed the chance to win Group N for the first time.
Ron himself will drive in 2002, but will contest only selected events in the U.A.E. Championship and possibly the African Safari WRC event.
* - A couple of issues back I mentioned that the Lebanon rally championship for 2001 was cancelled, I am now happy to correct myself with many thanks to Elie Dib and Yousef Kouseify, the Lebanon national rally champion is Doumit Bou Doumit.
He also won the group-N title there. For 2002 both Doumit and Elie Dib got new cars, Mitsubishi EVO-7 for Doumit, and Subaru Impreza WRX for Elie and they will rally them in the Lebanon rally championship, Cyprus rally, Syria rally and the Dubai rally as well.
Abdo Feghali, last year's hot favorite for the Lebanon title, will drive this year a Subaru Impreza WRC in the Lebanon championship and it looks like we are going to have there a very interesting championship.
One event removed and date changes to the 2002 schedule.
