After winning the legendary Pikes Peak hill climbing event with his own team in June, Romain Dumas took on another challenge this summer. The French driver began building a Porsche especially developed for the FIA RGT class. With this unique car, based on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4,0l, Romain hopes to take part in the Rallye de France-Alsace, 11th round of the World Rally Championship (WRC), and the Tour de Corse, European Rally Championship finale (ERC).

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4,0l RGT development

Present in rallying since 2007 alongside his official Porsche endurance program, Romain Dumas created the RD Limited label earlier this year, specialising in developing Porsches for rally. Several models have been completed at the Pôle Mécanique d’Alès workshops : a Porsche 911 GT3 RS type 996 for the GT class, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS type 997 for GT+, Porsche 911 911 SC 3,0 Gr3 and Gr4 for VHC,  and a Porsche 911 GT2 for hill climbing events. This line will grow to cover all classes with the conception of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4,0l  RGT , homologated for both the World Rally Championship and European Rally Championship.

This will be a big first and that pioneering spirit is exciting

Prepared exclusively by RD Limited, this Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4,0l « RGT » will be the culmination of the know-how accumulated by the Romain Dumas Rallye Team during the past few years and will correspond to the RGT rules set out by the FIA. It is the first Porsche to be built to this specification. The « RGT » will based on the la Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4,0l, limited to 600 examples to be sold : a big first ! This car has never seen competition.

The bulk of the development work began at the end of July. In addition to the gearbox development, six-speed sequential, and the flat six 4,0l engine, whose power will depend on FIA restrictors, a new rollcage was built in partnership with Matter. Handling improvements will be developed through PKM Consulting, and the « RGT » will receive bodywork changes : splitter, wing extensions, air inlets, etc.

Romain Dumas comments

"RD Limited is growing and putting an RGT rules Porsche on track is the next logical step, "explains Romain Dumas. "Thanks to the FIA rules, we will be able to explore new possibilities, both on the European and International levels. The RGT class has been in the back of my mind for a while and it’s now time for this project to become a reality, using this magnificent Porsche 911 RS 4,0l as a base. This model will be entered in competition for the very first time!"

"With RD Limited and the RD Rallye Team, we are now able to run Porsches across all classes, whether it’s with me behind the wheel, or Vincent Beltoise at Pikes Peak or Germain Bonnefis in the Rallye du Rouergue, without forgetting VHC and hill climbing events."

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4,0l RGT, developed by RD Limited will make its competition debut at the Rallye de France-Alsace, before a second appearance at the Tour de Corse. "With two participations in the WRC and a top 10 finish, I’m excited to return to the Rallye de France, but with a Porsche this time," admits Romain.

"This will be a big first and that pioneering spirit is exciting. It’s hard to have a precise objective in terms of a result because it will be a baptism by fire. We want to be up to the task and have a flawless rally. It will of course be an interesting and enriching experience. I can’t wait to see the Porsche mixing it with the WRC cars. With its look and sound, the RGT will stand out!"

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4,0l RGT, developed by RD Limited will soon be available for interested teams and drivers.
