NEW NAME FOR TOURING CLASSIC COMPETITION

Targa Tasmania's Touring Classic competition will now be known as the 'Classic Sprint', General Manager Tasmania for Octagon Rob McGuire announced today.

Effective immediately, the new name draws a clearer line of distinction between the event's competitive Touring Classic and the non-competitive Tour Categories.

"The name Classic Sprint was suggested to Octagon by a Targa Tasmania competitor," said McGuire. "It was then put before the Targa Tasmania Organising Committee who agreed unanimously that the new name was very fitting."

The Targa Tasmania Touring Classic is positioned mid-way between the Historic and Targa Tasmania Classic competitions. It caters for owners of vehicles built between 1947 and 1981 who prefer to follow the somewhat shorter historic course.

All Targa Tasmania documentation will be altered to reflect the new name immediately.

Other competitions in Targa Tasmania include the drivetravel.com Modern, the Shannons Classic, the Targa Tasmania Historic and now the Classic Sprint.

Next year's 15th anniversary Targa Tasmania will be staged between 25-30 April and 185 applications have already been received for the milestone staging.

Among those entered are reigning Targa Tasmania champions Jason and John White who will be making their return in a Lamborghini Gallardo and seven-time Bathurst champion Jim Richards who is likely to opt for a competitive four-wheel-drive Porsche.
