Burke/Fries Lead International Rally New York at End of Day One
Przybysz/Mantopoulos Storm Through to Hold Second
Seamus Burke/Eddie Fries (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9) continue to hold a commanding lead in International Rally New York. At the overnight halt in Ellenville, New York, their lead over the next car is about one and a half minutes.
Second place has been taken over by Maciej Przybysz/Constantine Mantopoulos (Subaru Impreza), who were motoring at a moderate pace in the morning, but blasted up through the order in the afternoon. Enda McCormack/Bernard Farrell (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6) and Gerard Coffey/Dave Dooley (Lancer Evo 8) hold the next two places, five and six seconds further back, respectively.
Each of the two days of the rally is also scored as a round of the regional New York Rally Championship. And in the first of these, Przybysz, McCormack and Coffey have taken the first three positions, all within six seconds of each other.
The two-wheel-drive category in the main (national) rally is led by Rafal Listopad/Amy Feistel (Volkswagen Golf), by over a minute and a half. Second is held by the local team of Jay Menzo/Andrew Robert (Mazda 323), who are competing in only their second rally.
The rally will finish in Ellenville tomorrow (Saturday) evening.
Note: Please be aware that these results are unofficial.
Note: International Rally New York is a round of the U.S. Rally Championship. Each day's run is also a qualifying round of the New York Rally Championship.
