Where are Indians racing this weekend (August 11-13)

India’s top rally driver Gaurav Gill, Mahindra Racing and several Indian racers will be in action across Europe and Asia. Full list...

Gaurav Gill, Stéphane Prévot, Skoda Fabia R5, Team MRF
Gaurav Gill (APRC Malaysia)

Gaurav Gill’s campaign in the 2017 APRC season will resume this weekend in Malaysia after a lengthy two month break.

The defending champion won the opening round of the season in New Zealand, but missed out on the top step in Australia to MRF teammate Ole Christian Veiby.

There is no denying that Gill has a much stronger opponent in Veiby this year, but one only needs to look at his 2013 intra-team rivalry with now-WRC rally winner Esapekka Lappi for an indication of his sheer pace.

PG Abhilash (APRC Malaysia)

PG Abhilash will join countryman Gill as his maiden APRC season continues in Malaysia.

While clearly a competitive rally driver, he is bogged down by a Subaru that's clearly a step below the R5 Skodas and the AP4-spec Mitsubishis of his rivals.

Sanjay Takale

Sanjay Takale will return to the APRC for the first time since last year's season finale in India.

The veteran rallyist has joined the Mpart outfit, whose Mitsubishi AP4s have been regular podium contenders since the start of the year.

Mahindra (Moto3 Austria)

Mahindra would like to carry forward the momentum gained in the Czech Republic to the next round of the season in Austria.

While neither of the Aspar runners qualified in the top 20 at Brno, Albert Arenas was able to charge through the field in wet conditions to finish inside the points.

While any comparisons to last year are not valid due to the drastic shift in pecking order, Mahindra’s Jorge Martin finished sixth at the Red Bull Ring in 2016.

Sarath Kumar (ARRC Supersport 600cc Indonesia)

Sarath Kumar will take part in the flagship category of Asia Road Racing Championship at Indonesia’s Sentul circuit this weekend.

Two separate injuries in 2016 have exaggerated his learning curve in the 600cc bikes that are used in the Supersport class, with Sarath particularly struggling in qualifying compared to other riders.

However, the RAMA Honda rider has still managed to notch points finishes on a regular basis, illustrating that he has the inherent talent to succeed in the series.

Rajiv Sethu (ARRC Asia Production 250cc Indonesia)

Much remains expected from Honda-backed Rajiv Sethu in the Asia Production 250cc category of Asia Road Racing Championship.

Having thoroughly impressed the critics in the Asia Dream Cup last year, he should have been at the sharp end of the pack this year, too.

But three rounds into the 2017 season, he is yet to bag a points finish.

Prabhu Arunagiri (ARRC Suzuki Asian Challenge Indonesia)

Prabhu Arunagiri has made a promising start to his rookie campaign in Suzuki Asia Challenge, which also comes under the Asia Road Racing Championship banner.

In fact, Arunagiri led the first Thailand race for its majority, only losing out on the top spot in the final few laps.

Expect another top-class showing, and possibly a season first podium, from Arunagiri this weekend.

K.Y Ahamed (ARRC Suzuki Asian Challenge Indonesia)

Like Arunagiri, KY Ahamed also races in the one-make Suzuki Asia Challenge.

Ahamed has performed well until this point of the year, but has been unfortunate to miss out on a podium in what is an ultra-competitive racing series.

Now that he has three rounds of experience under his belt, he’s likely to be racing at the sharper end of the field more often from here on.

Shahan Ali Mohsin (Rotax Grand Festival Austria)

Asia Karting Champion Shahan Ali Mohsin will head to Austria this weekend for the Rotax Grand Festival.

Over 119 karters from 29 countries will take part across various age-based categories, resulting in an ultra-competitive field.

It would be interesting to see how Mohsin performs against some of the very best karters in the world.
