Jamie Slone is Second in Miller Cup Inaugural Race at Road Atlanta
BENICIA, Calif. -- Jamie Slone, owner and driver of the Slone Racing No. 6 GoPro/Molecule Ford Mustang FR500S, finished second in the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup.
The inaugural race in the series was held May 3 on the 2.54-mile Road Atlanta course near Braselton, Ga.
"I started in second place and it was great to take the lead at the start," Slone said. "I ended up making a mistake and gave up the lead, but it feels great to be on the podium with these guys who have all raced for championships and have so much experience."
Slone battled with Pratt Cole and Tony Buffamonte to hold onto second place. Slone was in a great position to go for the win after the second full-course caution, but officials ended the race eight minutes early because of an accident.
"I want to thank MOLECULE Nomex and Technical Fabric Care Products team for supporting me and helping me get to this point." Slone said. "I really wanted to win this first Mustang Challenge race, but I'm still really happy with this result. We'll get another shot at the win at Mosport, which is a track that is all about high speed blind turns and just my style!"
The 2008 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup is eight races. The next race is June 15 at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. The race will be run the same weekend as the Grand-Am KONI Challenge series, Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the Barber National Series.
